Fifteen Minutes To Fame: [TW: talk of suicide and gross generalizations]
oh god forbid, i talk about being suicidal for attention. GOD FOR FUCKING BID THAT SOMEONE WHO IS SUICIDAL, OR DEPRESSED TO THE POINT OF TALKING ABOUT SUICIDE WANTS ATTENTION. what the fucking is wrong with wanting attention? whats wrong with telling people that i’m thinking about killing myself, just so my depression gets noticed and maybe i can find some help? did you ever fucking think that maybe i’m depressed because no one in my real life seems to give a shit about me, so i talk about it online where people will go out of their way to care? did you ever think that maybe i don’t want to see suicide as the only option, so i open up to others who might have gone through the same thing? have you ever thought maybe i’m painfully alone and just need a few “likes” or encouraging messages to make it through another day? did you ever think that it might be a cry for help to people i know IRL?i think people who are desperate enough for attention to threaten suicide DESERVE IT THE MOST.
this “doing it for attention” culture is fucking disgusting. quit telling me how i should act when i’m suicidal, or how i should seek help.
Yes. Same goes for people who self-injure, whether they are suicidal or not.
^ Yes. There was a time, and maybe still, that some people do cut for attention- but you can always tell the difference. The ones who cut/burn/any other type of SI because they hurt never put it on display. They try and hide it just as they hide their pain. Coming from an ex-cutter/carver, it sickens me when people generalize all SIers and looking for attention.
As another former cutter, though, I don’t see why we should stigmatize and silence people who do cut for attention. Because if they’re doing something that drastic for attention, they might have a serious, deep, underlying issue that they need help with.
signal boost, because this is so VERY VERY important
